Sluban German Half Track Review

Welcome to my review of the Sluban German Half Track and artillery set M38-B0695.

A lot of people have questions about the quality and compatibility of Chinese Lego knock offs so I’ll be reviewing a bunch of these military Lego style sets.

First off, Lego does not make any military sets so Kazi’s military block sets aren’t Lego rip offs. They are their own unique sets.

I always wanted to build Lego tanks as a kid but the major problem was the track system. For a while I had some rubber tracks but they weren’t big enough to build a cool looking tank.

Lego Technic tracks came in expensive sets and weren’t economical to build a few custom tanks.

Block makers like Sluban, Kazi, Gudi, Xingbao and others fill this crucial void in the building block market.

SDKFZ 251 German Half Track

The Sluban German Half Track and artillery set M38-B0695 is modelled on the iconic German SDKFZ 251 half-track and the K18 105mm artillery gun. 

Over 15,000 of these vehicles were built during the Second World War.  They were primarily used in Panzergrenadier units that accompanied the Panzer units.  It’s basically an armored personnel carrier that was used when the Panzer forces required mobile infantry.

Sluban German Half Track Features

The Sluban German Half Track and artillery set (M38-B0695) comes with 460 pieces and the price is right at about $20 USD.

The set includes 3 minifigures, including a sniper!

The designers did an excellent job on making the half- track look like the real thing.  I especially love the mounted .50 Cal machine gun!

The tracks move really well, especially on carpet. 

Overall, the half-track is a pretty solid build, but the 105mm K18 artillery gun is a bit fragile.

I can’t say enough good things about this set though.  I actually bought 2 of them!  I’ve seen other versions of the half-track from other makers, but the Sluban one is definitely the coolest and most realistic model. 

I think it’s really cool that they went with the desert camo theme reminiscent of Rommel’s famed Afrika Korps.
