Welcome to my Sluban Battle of Stalingrad review of set M38-B0696.
A lot of people have questions about the quality and compatibility of Chinese Lego knock offs so I’ll be reviewing a bunch of these military Lego style sets.

I always wanted to build Lego tanks as a kid but the major problem was the track system. For a while I had some rubber tracks but they weren’t big enough to build a cool looking tank.
Lego Technic tracks came in expensive sets and weren’t economical to build a few custom tanks.
Chinese block makers like Sluban, Kazi, Gudi, Xingbao and others fill this crucial void in the building block market.

Battle of Stalingrad 1942-1943
The Battle of Stalingrad was the bloodiest battle ever fought by mankind in all history. Casualties were in the millions with about 800,000 killed. An entire German Army was defeated and it marked a major turning point in the Second World War.
Sluban Battle of Stalingrad Set
The scale of the Battle of Stalingrad was absolutely enormous so it’s really tough to capture such a huge battle in a 479 piece play set. That said, Sluban did a pretty decent job capturing the essence of the battle in the city streets and in the city ruins.
Nowhere was safe in Stalingrad and in this Sluban set you have an artillery piece hidden behind a broken brick wall, a machine gun nest in a ruined building tower and another machine gun hiding behind a wall.
The main gate to the building opens and closed and there is a hatch to the top floor that opens and closes.
Sluban Battle of Stalingrad Features
The Sluban Battle of Stalingrad set (M38-B0696) comes with 479 pieces and the price is right at about $25 USD.
The set includes 4 minifigures: A driver, infantry etc., and lots of other stuff like weapons, a .50 cal machine gun with tripod and a barricade. There is also a fire hydrant and a street lamp.
There is an artillery gun or anti-tank gun.
A motorcycle comes in the set as does a German armored car (SDKFZ 234). The turret fully rotates, the top turret hatch opens and the back engine hatch opens.
The designers did an excellent job on making all of the pieces in this set look like the real thing. I mean you got the red bricks for the building and bars where the bricks were destroyed. It’s really cool stuff.
Overall, the set is a pretty solid build. If you collect the other sets in the Sluban World War 2 line, then you’ll have plenty of tanks, half-tracks and aircraft to use in a huge mock battle.
