Quan Guan Cobi Soviet IS-2M Heavy Tank Review

Welcome to my Quan Guan Cobi Soviet IS-2M Heavy Tank review of set 100062. This is the off brand Lego Soviet tank that I built and I’m impressed.

This set is a direct rip off from the Cobi IS-2M brick set.

A lot of people have questions about the quality and compatibility of Chinese Lego knock offs so I’ll be reviewing a bunch of these military Lego style sets.

I always wanted to build Lego tanks as a kid but the major problem was the track system. For a while I had some rubber tracks but they weren’t big enough to build a cool looking tank.

Lego Technic tracks came in expensive sets and weren’t economical to build a few custom tanks.

So I’m happy that block makers like Cobi, Sluban, Kazi, Gudi, Xingbao and others fill this crucial void in the building block market.

Soviet IS-2M Joseph Stalin Tank

The Soviet IS-2M was a monster plain and simple. The tank was designed as a successor to the KV-1 and KV-2 tanks. It had super thick 100mm sloped armour that could withstand a direct hit from the 88mm main gun of the German Tiger 1 and Tiger 2 tanks.

This tank was designed to kill the German Tiger and Panther tanks with its massive 122mm main gun. It entered service in the Spring of 1944 and spearheaded the Soviet advance on Germany until the end of the war in May 1945.

This is a really cool set of the iconic Soviet Tank. The German commanders were so fearful of this tank that the wouldn’t let their Tiger’s go near them. Just imagine German Tiger and Panther tanks – the pinnacle of Germany WW2 tanks – fleeing from this monster!

The set comes with 1068 pieces, 6 mini figures and lots of WW2 era Soviet weapons including a heavy machine gun!

While not officially mounted on the turret, this MG can be mounted on the tank with a slight modification. See my photo to see how to do it:

Guys this tank is super cool and realistic looking. As with the other QG sets I reviewed I love the track system based on the Cobi design. The tracks move great and sound fantastic.

Turret fully rotates and the top hatch opens to place a commander or gunner.

The front of the tank opens up to reveal an internal drivers compartment.

There is also a realistic V12 Tank engine at the back with a hatch that opens.

The main gun has a really cool custom muzzle brake and the barrel fully raises and lowers. Sadly, there is no mounted coax machine gun as was the case with the QG KV-2, Tiger 131 and Panzer IV.

The bricks are really great quality. I’d say not as good as LEGO but a cut above the Kazi bricks.

The set comes with 6 mini figures and the printing is exceptional. There’s no smudging on them.

Overall a great set and exceptional great value.
