Battle of Kursk Pictures. I found these pictures from the battle during my research and just had to publish them for all to see.
The Battle of Kursk was fought from July 5, 1943 until August 23, 1943. It was a major victory for the Soviets. They managed to beat back a massive German armored assault that turned the tide of the war on the Eastern Front. From that point on, the German Army was in constant retreat until its ultimate defeat in May 1945.
Destroyed Ferdinand Tank Destroyers at Kursk. Despite their massive tank destroying 88mm main gun, these tanks were highly vulnerable to infantry attacks because they had no machine guns to fend off attacks.
The Germans deployed 91 of these “Ferdi’s” at Kursk and lost about 40 of them to mechanical breakdowns and Soviet infantry. The remaining 50 or so went back to Germany to be upgraded into the Elefant version.
At Kursk, the Ferdi’s inflicted serious damage to Soviet tanks. All told, they were responsible for destroying no less than 500 Soviet tanks.
Above is the infamous Tiger 1 tank in a hull down position with supporting infantry.
Here we have a Soviet machine gun crew fending off a German attack.
This is a picture of a Soviet anti-tank rifle crew. These infantrymen used high powered anti tank rifles to harass and destroy German tanks.
Here is a rare opportunity to see the backbone of German armor at Kursk. We have a Tiger 1 tank next to a Panther tank. Behind the Tiger 1 is a Panzer 4 Ausf. H with side skirts and extra turret armor.
Tiger tanks and Panther tanks were in short supply at Kursk, with only about 140 Tigers and 200 Panthers. The backbone of German armored formations at Kursk consisted of Panzer IVs and Panzer 3s. Above is a Panzer 3 crew resting.

A Soviet counterattack involving the infamous T-34 tanks and infantry at Kursk. The Soviet were able to field thousands of the mass produced T-34 tank.
Marder IIIs at Kursk. This lightly armored tank destroyer was highly successful at Kursk as was the Stug 3 assault gun.
Famo’s towing a broken down Tiger Tank at Kursk. The weight of the Tiger tanks were a bit much for the engine and transmissions.
